CALLED TO CHANGE
Introduction:
Change is hard! It involves changing!
A philosopher by the name of Soren Kierkegaard said about faith,
"It is so hard to believe because it is so hard to obey."
Paul said it this way in Romans:
15 For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate.
16 Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good.
17 So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me.
18 For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.
19 For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing.
God has called us out of darkness and into the light. He has called us to change. But we can’t do that on our own. We need help.
That’s why we were given the Holy Spirit and a regenerate heart. He had to change us from the inside out. He had to change our thinking.
But part of that change is not just changing ourselves, it is helping to be the agent of change for others. We are called to be salt and light in this world. We are on a mission of change in this world.
Over the next few weeks we are going to look at the mission of the church. We will start today by examining that mission and then we will look at several mission busters that we need to watch out for.
