OPPOSITION WILL RISE NEHEMIAH 4
The church will always have her opponents. This has been the story since the dawn of time.
The Apostle John said, do not be surprised if the world hates you” (1 John 3:13). He said that Jesus said, “If the world hates you, know that it hated me before it hated you” (John 15:18)
It would be easy if this was just speaking of the world outside of the church, but it’s not because often the world gets inside the church as well.
Throughout the ages there has been a battle between those who belong to the world and those who belong to God.
We shouldn’t look at history as a battle between two equally opposing forces, because God is always stronger and will always accomplish His plans and purposes, but Satan will constantly have his people in place to seek to stop the plans of God if he can.
However, John Calvin reminds us that "Nothing that is attempted in opposition to God can ever be successful.
John Calvin
That doesn’t mean that we won’t be battered, so what do we do when opposition arises. That’s what we want to look at tonight.
Turn with me to Nehemiah 4 and let’s see what Nehemiah and the people did whenever these opponents rose up against the work God had called them to do.
